IFS

Internal Family System (Jessica Millanponce, LCSW. IFS-Informed)

The Internal Family System approach was developed by Dr. Richard C Schwartz and engages the person and all the various “parts” of them. Have you ever found yourself saying, “a part of me feels this way or a part of me feels that way.” It is natural for all human beings to be subdivided and have multiple “parts.” The internal family system approach takes a deeper look inside the person and gets to know the different parts, internal relationship among parts and how we are relating to our various parts as well as how those parts relate to one another. As we work to heal those internal relationships, we also extend that same healing process to our external relationships. The essential goal of IFS is to increase harmony and balance to the internal system which delivers long lasting healing.

EMDR/Flash Technique

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy was developed as an approach to transmute negative experiences into adaptive experiences (Shapiro, 3rd ed. 2018). These experiences may include episodic traumatic events or complex developmental trauma. Oftentimes a person experiencing trauma has a range of symptoms that may include intrusive images, negative thoughts and beliefs about self or roke in situations, fear, shame, guilt, anxiety and internal body sensations. The EMDR is primarily done through bilateral stimulation (eye-movements), tactile or auditory for the purpose of reprocessing dysfunctional material.

Brainspotting

The brainspotting technique is a powerful approach developed by David Grand, PhD which utilizes the client’s innate brain-body healing capacity. Essentially, the brain spotting technique enables clients to focus in and process through past or recent traumas causing distress through the use of deep brain sources where many emotional and somatic problems remain. Our brains are organically designed to heal and protect us from pain. As we use this approach, we give our brain the green light to do its best work!

TFT

Thought Field Therapy

Thought Field Therapy is an integrative approach which utilizes the meridian points and bilateral stimulation through the use of tapping. TFT is recognized as an empowering tool for self-healing through the use of tapping. TFT is listed as an evidence-based practice by SAMHSA and NREPP. TFT has positive results in treating stress, anger, trauma, phobias, panic, anxiety, excessive guilt, depression, addictive urges, obsession and grief.  Brief synopsis of TFT: The person will bring up the distressing emotions, thoughts, feelings and physical sensations they want to heal. The therapist gently guides the client through various tapping protocols to send healing signals to the lower limbic system of the brain which has no language.

grounding/ meditation

The benefits of grounding and meditation are endless. The process of grounding includes a therapeutic technique that involves increasing awareness of the present moment and simply connecting to the earth. The benefits of grounding include reduced inflammation, decreased anxiety/depression, reduced mood dysregulation and more. Meditation: There are many different types of meditation. The therapist will collaborate with you on what type of meditation practice works best for you.

The use of meditation is particularly helpful for increasing calmness, physical relaxation, accessing internal parts, improving psychological balance and improving overall health and wellness. The use of meditation and grounding are typical practices incorporated into the care approach at Healthy Minds Wellness Center.
